Fire destroyed a car repair shop in Pittstown early Friday morning, causing major traffic backups.
The fire broke out before 6 a.m. in the building at 3450 Route 7, according to our crew on the scene.
No one was injured and the building was destroyed. Cars inside the shop were also burned up.
After 7 a.m. Route 7 was reopened to alternating one lane of traffic as crews continued to clean up.
Two homes on either side of the garage were evacuated but not damaged.
The cause of the fire is being investigated. Firefighters were still putting out the hot spots at 7:30 a.m.
