Nursing Home Fire

December 21, 2007 - 6:56 PM

Fire crews have cleared the scene of a small fire at an area nursing home.

Crews were called to the Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home in North Greenbush shortly after 6 Friday night for a fire inside room C-121 of the respiratory wing.

We’re told a resident in the room was smoking in bed. The fire was fueled by the oxygen the resident was receiving. Nursing home staff was able to quickly extinguish the flames and the resident was taken to an area hospital to be treated for minor burns.

A total of 15 residents in the respiratory wing were transported to area hospitals to be checked out.

The families of all residents are being notified of what happened.
