Albany Fire Sends One to the Hospital
An early morning fire on Madison Avenue in Albany sent one man to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Albany Public Safety spokesman James Miller tells CBS 6 News that the man in his mid thirties was pulled from the building at 598 Madison Avenue just after four Tuesday morning.
Fire officials tell CBS 6 News that the fire started on the first floor and quickly traveled to the roof early in the morning. The building did have a sprinkler system, but the flames were too intense. Watervliet and Troy fire units were called in to help The Albany crews battle the blaze. Several people were evacuated from the building, and at one point the fire forced firefighters to regroup outside the building.
Albany Police had been concerned about a homeless man that frequented the building, but police tell CBS 6 News that the man was located sometime Tuesday afternoon.
Miller says a decision on razing the building will be made Wednesday afternoon due to a request from Assemblymen Jack McEneny and the owner of the building Joseph Galu.
