Authorities have released the name of the man who died when his pickup truck was hit by a tractor-trailer near a Thruway exit in Albany.

State police say 48-year-old Raymond Gaidusek of Albany was making an illegal U-turn in Interstate 90's westbound lanes near Exit 24 at about 9 p.m. Wednesday when he was hit, causing both vehicles to burst into flames.

Responding troopers were able to remove Gaidusek, who was partially thrown from his truck and died. Gaidusek was taken to Albany Medical Center while his body awaits autopsy.

The driver of the truck, 63-year-old Raymond Maxim of Utica, suffered minor injuries. He was also taken to Albany medical Center.

Firefighters had to call in a tanker truck from the Albany airport after running out of water battling the blaze.

Both the pickup and the tractor-trailer, which had been carrying pallets of bottled water, were completely destroyed in the fires.

All three westbound lanes were closed for a time and the left lane remained closed through much of Thursday morning.
