ALBANY -- The Albany County
Legislature voted Monday evening to transfer control of the county’s nursing
home to a Local Development Corporation.
The decision came more than a year after County Executive Dan McCoy proposed
leasing it to a private company in an effort to stem an estimated $1 million
loss each month.
the years I’ve found that people from the community, people who have been in
business who have expertise in business they can move the project forward much
better than we can,” said Legislature Majority Leader Frank Commissio.
Before the vote, several legislators questioned whether the plan would actually
solve the nursing home’s financial problems. Minority Whip Deb Busch equated
the LDC resolution to “signing a “blank check.”
we're looking at a $10 million debt for the nursing home,” said Busch. “I would
say after paying operator services we're looking at probably an additional $1 million
on top of this. I don't believe in this.”
