PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (AP) -- A Long Island man is accused of leaving his two young sons unattended in a cold car while he shopped.
Suffolk County police found the children, a 5 month old and a 5 year old, at 5:40 p.m. Monday in the Patchogue Village parking lot.
Police say the vehicle was locked and the engine was not running.
They charged Luis Lucero Fajardo of Patchogue with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
According to Newsday, witnesses said the children were in the car 15 minutes before police arrived. Police say the temperature outside was 25 degrees.
The children were released to their mother.
Police say Fajardo also was driving an uninsured vehicle and without a license.
It wasn't immediately clear if he had a lawyer.
