Bitter Cold Today - Moderate to Heavy Snow Storm Late Sunday Night Into Monday

An arctic air mass combined with gusty winds from 25-30 mph through today will continue to lead to wind chills as low as -10 to -15 through this afternoon.  Then, tomorrow night through Monday, a large storm will track to the region's south, passing through the Tennessee valley and the Mid Atlantic region, then south of New England.  The Storm track appears will be favorable to bring accumulating snow to the region with a possibility for moderate to heavy amounts. Expect difficult travel conditions to develop late Sunday night, continuing through Monday.

You Paid For It: NYS Budget Surplus

Updated: Thursday, August 7 2014, 12:16 AM EDT
ALBANY -- New York State is suddenly in the black.
The Governor said that thanks to things like payments from financial settlements, the State now has a $4.2 billion surplus.  He's trying to figure out what to do with the cash.
What could $4.2 billion do?  Greg Floyd crunched the numbers.
It could cover the cost of the new $3.9 billion Tappan Zee Bridge, with a little money left over.
According to 2013 toll revenues, he could make the New York State Thruway a freeway for the next 6 1/2 years.
With the average starting salary for a teacher in New York at just more than $43,000, more than 97,000 new teachers could be hired statewide.
Or, if you're worried about out-of-town lawmakers eating and sleeping well enough while they're in Albany, the $4.2 billion could pay their per diem expenses during the legislative session for the next 2,000 years.
