You Paid For It: Crumbling Crosswalks

Updated: Friday, August 2 2013, 10:22 PM EDT
Colonie crosswalks. Central Avenue in Colonie is a very heavily traveled roadway and a number of CBS6 viewers reached out to Greg Floyd to ask what's going on with the crumbling crosswalks. The bulk of those crosswalks are between Route 155 and Colonie Center. It's not a pretty sight, but it did cost a pretty penny -- and You Paid For It.

If you've driven it lately, you've probably noticed the faux brick crosswalks in that area are in terrible condition, full of cracks and potholes. The crosswalks are only a few years old, part of a 6.5 million dollar resurfacing project done by the NYS Department of Transportation. The 45 high visibility crosswalks cost $280,000. DOT tells us the material used for the crosswalks has not performed up to expectations, and the crosswalks will be fixed. A spokesman says he doesn't know yet what the long term solution will be, but for now they will continue patching and repairing. You Paid For It: Crumbling Crosswalks
