NY praised for energy efficiency progress
ALBANY -- A progressive public policy group says New York is one of the leading states for energy efficiency progress.
The Center for American Progress says officials at the state and municipal level have taken an aggressive, multifaceted approach to reducing energy use.
The report notes that most of the state's energy efficiency programs are run by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority -- NYSERDA.
It says investor-owned utilities also are becoming involved in running energy efficiency programs. And it cites work being done by Mayor Michael Bloomberg and other city officials in retrofitting buildings in New York City.
Through NYSERDA programs, energy efficiency has been improved in more than 45,000 homes, 71,000 apartment buildings, and 17,800 commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities. More than 115,000 low-income customers have received energy-efficiency assistance.
