Less than three weeks after Corey Ellis lost his bid for Mayor of Albany in the General Election, the outgoing Third Ward Common Council member tells CBS 6's Ken Screven he will seek the office again in four years.
Ellis mounted a year long campaign to challenge incumbent Democratic Mayor Jerry Jennings in the September primary. Jennings defeated the African-American city official in the primary but only by less than 1600 votes, the closest any candidate has come in challenging Jennings.
Ellis continued on to the November election on the Working Families Party line but Jennings over powered Ellis by a nearly two to one margin. Nathan Le Bron also ran on the Republican Party line.
On Friday Corey Ellis said he plans to run again for City Hall even though he ends his Common Council tenure in January. He said, "I am not going away."
Ellis said he was outspent in the Primary race with Jennings having a warchest estimated at $500,000 and Ellis with $80,000.
The former community organizer says he was able to bridge social and racial gaps in his campaign for Mayor and believes he will be able to expand that over the next four years.
Ellis acknowleded it will all come down to raising money a process he plans to launch after the first of the year.
He remained critical of the incumbent Mayor on issues of community policing and neighborhood improvement.
Mayor Jennings won his fifth term in office this November.
