East Greenbush bank robbery suspect arrested

A suspect in Wednesdays Key Bank Robbery has surrendered. After identifying the license plate number used by the getaway vehicle, police had issued an appeal through the media on Thursday, asking for the suspects to give up, so as to avoid a risk of any unnecessary personal injury. A 30 year old bank teller suffered a broken femer during the robbery when he was kicked and stomped. When the teller said that he could not open the bank vault, the robber went into a rage by pushing him down and stomping his leg broken in three places.
Picked up and detained for investigation on Friday, JOHNATHAN P. LAWRENCE, was subsequently released to Cohoes Police on an unrelated matter Friday afternoon. While still in custody at Cohoes this morning, a remorseful LAWRENCE admitted to his role in the robbery.
LAWRENCE is accused of entering the bank fully desguised with a mask, assaulting the tellers and robbing the cash. He was charged by Officer Michael Guadagnino with Robbery 1st Dgr., Assault 1st Dgr. and Grand Larceny 3rd Dgr.
JONATHAN P. LAWRENCE is 32 and resides at 63 White Rd., Altamont NY. He appeared before East Greenbush Town Justice Kevin Engle at about 2:00 P.M. this afternoon and was remanded to Rensselaer County Jail. He is scheduled to reappear in court on Monday March 30th at 10:00 A.M.
Police continue to search for a second suspect, who drove the getaway vehicle. East Greenbush Police are receiveing assistance from the Rensselaer County District Attorney's Office, State Police, Cohoes Police, Albany County Sheriff and Rensselaer County law enforcement agencies.
