Tortured Dog Found in Albany
Albany Police are searching for the owner of a tan and white pit bull mix that was found to be severely malnourished and had a wound around his neck where the collar was.
The Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society says the dog was brought in around noon Friday after an Albany Parking Control Officer found the dog on Sheridan Avenue near Lark Street."
Brad Shear of the Humane Society says the dog's neck injury was caused by a chain collar that was too small for the dog's neck, and the injury has been there for over a month.
"This is a very troubling case," Shear said. "Obviously, this dog has been slowly suffering for quite some time. Not only has he not had enough to eat, he has been in great pain from his wounds."
A veterinarian at the shelter is treating the dog, and is fighting the infection that started around the dog's neck.
Humane Society Investigators are working with the Albany Police to find the dog's owner so that animal cruelty charges can be filed. Anyone with information is asked to call the Albany Animal Control at 434-5091.
