Layoffs could come in Averill Park School District
There is a "strong possibility" that 26 faculty members could lose their job this spring, Dr. Jo Moccia, Superintendent of the Averill Park Central School District, told CBS 6.
The superintendent and Board of Education are considering the move as they discuss the district’s financial future.
Seven positions would be cut in the elementary schools, where the district has seen a decrease in enrollment by 100 students.
The other cuts are due to the financial constraints involving state aid and other funding cuts.
The final decision will be up to voters when they weigh in on the board’s budget in May.
If the district were to do nothing, Moccia said, taxpayers would face a minimum 10 percent tax increase.
