Vermont Public Radio disinvites candidate for fear of profanity
Vermont Public Radio won't let Liberty Union candidate Peter Diamondstone participate in a US Senate debate next week because of fears he might swear.
VPR News Director John Van Hoesen says Federal Communication Commission rules are clear and indecent language can result in fines of tens of thousands of dollars.
In a debate on Tuesday, Diamondstone used an expletive after questions were directed at Republican Rich Tarrant and independent Bernard Sanders and not him.
Van Hoesen says Diamondstone insisted "his right to use foul language" was a part of political free speech.
But Diamondstone now says if he's allowed to debate he won't swear. But he says he became angry during the law school debate.
