Tedisco agrees to debate, after all

UPDATED 7:42 p.m.

Republican candidate Jim Tedisco has agreed to the WROW debate, after all. His campaign office sent out a release at around 6:50 p.m. to announced Tedisco will participate in the debate, now scheduled for Tuesday, March 24th at 7 p.m.

Earlier, Tedisco's office called our newsroom to dispute a press release sent out this morning by WROW and the League of Women Voters announcing that he and the other two candidates in the special election for the 20th congressional seat had met and agreed to participate in a debate.

After CBS 6 noted the change here (see below), Democratic candidate Scott Murphy's office later sent out a release saying, "Tedisco has issued numerous debate challenges, but then his campaign refused to even attend a meeting with the League of Women Voters where the Murphy and Sunwall campaigns were represented. We look forward to debating... JimTedisco..."

Not an hour later, Tedisco's camp issued the announcement that it would be participating in the WROW/League of Women Voters debate.

The format will be 30 minutes of questions from the audience and 30 minutes of moderated discussion.

UPDATED 2:35 p.m.

CORRECTION: CBS 6 News received a call from Republican candidate Jim Tedisco's campaign stating the Assemblyman was not in fact in Latham Tuesday to view the debate space, nor did he agree to a debate. Tedisco's office said any debate that may be set up will be announced directly from the candidates.

Below is the original article based off the press release from WROW and the LWV.

The candidates in the 20th congressional special election have agreed to a debate.

Democrat Scott Murphy, Libertarian Eric Sundwall and Republican Jim Tedisco will debate one another shortly before the special election scheduled for March 31st, announced the local chapter of the League of Women Voters and radio station NewsTalk 590 WROW, which are hosting the debate.

The candidates met with the sponsors Tuesday morning to discuss the debate grounds rules and to tour the facility where the debate will be held.

The debate will be held at the Holiday Inn Express in Latham, chosen because of its central location among the three candidates.

It has been tentatively scheduled to take place the week of March 23rd.
