Black Friday shopping guide & Online holiday shopping deals

The day got its name because retailers traditionally hope it will tip them over into the black. Even against the backdrop of an extraordinarily gloomy economic outlook, the day still figures to be one of the best of the season.
Retailers are pulling out every enticement they can think of. Some stores opened at midnight. All are featuring deep price cuts.
Target is handing out store maps showing where the specials are, including a high-def TV set for $299. Wal-Mart is selling a Blu-ray DVD player for $128.
Best Buy is throwing open its doors at 5 a.m., providing coffee and doughnuts for what it hopes will be lines of shoppers. There'll also be Toshiba laptops for $380 and a Garmin GPS system for $190. J.C. Penney says it's adding 20 percent more items to its Black Friday specials, including a half-carat diamond necklace for $79.99.
