Schenectady County passes resolution for GPS tracking of domestic abuse offenders
SCHENECTADY -- Schenectady County lawmakers unanimously passed a resolution Tuesday night to allow for GPS tracking technology to monitor domestic abuse offenders who have orders of protection against them.
Under the resolution, the county will be able to provide GPS technology to the Schenectady County Department of Probation for the purpose of monitoring domestic abuse offenders under their supervision.
The courts currently have the authority to make electronic monitoring a condition of probation.
The technology is meant to protect victims of stalking and domestic abuse, including physical assault and sexual assault.
