Rensselaer County receives grants to protect farmland
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Rensselaer County has been given just over $800,000 in grants from New York State to help protect nearly 600 acres of farmland.
Buckland Farms in the Town of Schaghticoke has been given $579,559 and Philpott Farm in Hoosick was given $222,716.
By receiving these funds, farmers and owners of these properties agree to sell development rights to ensure the properties are kept in agricultural use.
To date, Rensselaer County has now been selected for ten farmland protection projects that add up to about 3,200 acres.
"This is exciting news and gives the county some momentum for future success in protecting farmland and open space," said Rensselaer County Legislator Lestor Goodermote.
