Lafarge to hold public meeting in Rensselaer County Tuesday
Rensselaer County residents are being invited to a town hall-style meeting tomorrow evening on air quality issues at the Lafarge cement plant located across the Hudson River.
Lafarge officials will present their findings on its recent voluntary emissions tests conducted last year, along with an update on its efforts to modernize its facility in Ravena.
The Lafarge Cement Plant was categorized by the Environmental Protection Agency in 2007 as the nation's fourth worst mercury polluter for its toxic air emissions.
Rensselaer County lawmakers had expressed concern over emissions from southern Albany County migrating across the Hudson River to southern Rensselaer County.
The meeting will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Castleton Ambulance headquarters, located near the intersection of Brookview (State Route 150) and Maple Hill roads.
