Opening of Regal Cinema at Colonie Center Delayed Again

Opening of the Regal Cinema movie theater at Colonie Center Mall is being postponed yet again.

Originally slated for February, the opening has now been pushed back to May. The 13-screen movie theater has been undergoing construction for nearly a year.

Back in November, property owner Feldman Mall Properties faced questions of safety at the theater when builders had to backtrack construction and move out the theater's walls slightly in order properly fit in ceiling tiles, which the walls would not originally accommdate.

But company chair Larry Feldman insisted the building was structurally sound, saying the problem was causing only "a very minor construction delay."

The mall manager says the latest construction delay is because of the time needed to install all the new technology. Because the entire cinema is digital -- projection, screens, surround sound -- outfitting the building with the extra equipment requires more time, said the manager.
