Bloomberg: Deadly crane collapse 'unacceptable'
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Mayor Michael Bloomberg says this morning's deadly crane collapse in Manhattan is "unacceptable" and he's vowing the city would investigate its latest construction site disaster.
At least one person is dead and a construction worker is in a hospital after the crane collapsed onto a 23-story apartment building before crashing on the street at 91st Street and First Avenue.
The crane toppled over onto an 23-story apartment building on the southwest corner of 91st Street. Upper-floor balconies on the apartment building are severely damaged and a hole extends several stories down the side of the building.
Construction foreman Scott Bair says being hungry saved his life. Bair says he left the construction site to get an egg sandwich just before the crane fell.
The accident comes less than three months after a crane collapsed at another Manhattan construction site, killing seven people.
