Schenectady Free Health Clinic gets $75K in state help
SCHENECTADY -- The Schenectady Free Health Clinic has secured $75,000 in state grant money to help maintain services to the community's uninsured, state Senator Hugh Farley announced Thursday.
The volunteer-run clinic provides health care services to over 2,600 uninsured patients and requires at least $550,000 a year to keep running.
This year's grant was obtained using unspent allocations from previous fiscal years, according to Sen. Farley's office.
Sen. Farley has been involved with the clinic since 2002, when he sponsored legislation authorizing the creation of the clinic, according to a press release from Sen. Farley's office. In 2006, another Farley-sponsored bill made the Schenectady County pilot program permanent, and in 2008, Farley sponsored the law that expanded the program statewide.
