Ex-Guilderland police chief pleads guilty to official misconduct
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Former Guilderland police chief James Murley has pleaded guilty to official misconduct.
Part of a plea deal offered by Albany County District Attorney David Soares, Murley pleaded guilty in Albany City Court Friday morning.
Murley retired in May of 2007 amid accusations of falsifying his time card, spending time at a casino when he called in sick and sexual harrassment.
"James Murley had a long and professional career as chief of police in the town of Guilderland," said town supervisor Kenneth Runion. "Unfortuantely, the the effects of a gambling addiction led to his pleading guilty to official misconduct today in Albany City Court. This demonstrates the effects this illness can have on an admirable career."
He had been chief at the department for 35 years. Carol Lawlor was voted in as the new police chief last June.
