Driver, passenger charged in Washington County accident

A passenger and a driver involved in an accident in which their car landed in the Indian River have been charged by police in the incident.

Devon Lewis, 20, was charged with reckless endangerment for grabbing the steering wheel of the car, causing the car to spin, strike the guardrails and flip over several times into the river.

The driver, Jessica Mannell, was also charged with violations of operating a motor vehicle without a license and with operating with an unsafe tire.

The charges are in connection with the Saturday evening accident in Granville in Washington County. Police say Mannell was driving a 1999 Acura when the car struck a guardrail, flipped over and came to a rest in the Indian River.

Passengers Vincent Garulli and Jenna Bosclair were thrown from the car and tossed into the river. Garulli was pinned under the car, according to police, and was able to stay above water with Bosclair's assistance.

Charlotte Gonsalves and Lewis, also passengers, were injured, too.

Lewis was sent to Washington County Jail on $5,000 cash bail. Mannell was issued traffic tickets for the Town of Granville Court.
