A Maryland man has been charged in Saratoga County in connection with a December incident in which he allegedly robbed a bank and tried to flee police. 

Daniel Freeland, 62, was charged today with felonies menacing a police officer, second-degree criminal possession and third-degree criminal mischief, as well as misdemeanors second-degree reckless endangerment and third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle.

Freeland has already been charged with armed robbery in Albany County. 

According to State Police, the Colonie Police Department responded to an armed bank robbery in the town of Colonie Dec. 18th and turned over a description of the suspect and vehicle to local police agencies. 

A state trooper spotted a vehicle matching the description traveling north on I-87 and called in additional units to assist in pulling the car over.

The vehicle exited the Northway at exit 16 in Wilton and attempted to flee troopers. The chase continued on to Ballard Road, where the suspect had to stop for a train crossing the roadway, according to State Police.

When two troopers approached Freeland's vehicle, Freeland pointed a loaded revolver at one of them. That trooper responded by firing at Freeland, with one shot striking Freeland's vehicle, said police.

Freeland drove on through the crossing gates and continued on to Ballard Road to State Route 50, turning south and speeding back toward Saratoga Springs.

The chase ended when Freeland entered on Route 50 and attempted to run a red light at East Ave., causing a collision with a northbound passenger car, losing control of the vehicle, which rolled over.

Freeland was taken into custody by state troopers with assistance from the Saratoga Springs police.

Freeland is expected to be arraigned on the latest charges in Wilton Town Court this evening.
