Bottom Line: CDC Scam Warning
The CDC is warning consumers about an email scam that plays off of your fear of swine flu.
The email, which started making the rounds on Dec. 1, appears as if it came from the CDC and claims that you need to register on their website to create an "H1-N1 vaccination profile." Once users click on the link, they are asked to enter their information and medical history.
This site, however, is not from the CDC. It is bogus and infects your computer with a version of the banker trojan virus, which steals your usernames and passwords from all of your online banking sessions.
The email address will look like it's from the CDC. Subject lines scammers might use are headings like, "Governmental Registration Program on the H1-N1 Vaccination," "Creation of Your Personal Vaccination Profile," and "State Vaccination H1-N1 Program."
There is no such program and the CDC says they would never ask for your information.
