Woman commits suicide by jumping from Hudson River bridge
SCHODACK -- State police say a 48-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping off a bridge spanning the Hudson River south of Albany.
Troopers say late yesterday afternoon they responded to the Berkshire Spur section of the Thruway on the Castleton Bridge in the Town of Schodack, on the river's east bank in Rensselaer County.
That's where police say a woman was spotted standing on the railing of the bridge.
Troopers who arrived on the scene say they found a vehicle abandoned in the driving lane midway across the bridge.
Local emergency crews also responded and began searching the river below the bridge with boats.
They recovered the body of a woman from Troy who was pronounced at the scene.
The woman's name hasn't been released.
