Body found in Adirondack forest
A body found in a remote area of the Adirondacks is tentatively identified as a 72-year-old California man who has been missing since Columbus Day weekend.
Snowy weather hampered efforts to remove the body believed to be Frederick Gillingham of Camarillo, Calif. The body was found by a hunter late Monday in woods north of the Rock River about three miles from any road.
State Department of Environmental Conservation spokesman Dave Winchell said Tuesday evening that rangers were removing the body on foot and by boat.
State police informed Gillingham's family of the discovery. A positive identification is expected when an autopsy is done to determine the cause of death.
Gillingham, who owns a camp in Indian Lake, was reported missing on Oct. 15 after he had missed a dinner engagement. An intensive 12-day search was launched .
