'Bloody Mohawk' author to speak at NYS Military Museum

SARATOGA SPRINGS -- The author of a new book on a particularly bloody stretch of New York state's history is speaking at an area museum today.

Richard Berleth will be at the New York State Military Museum in Saratoga Springs at 1 p.m. and will sign copies of his book, "Bloody Mohawk."

His book details the battles fought along the Mohawk Valley beginning with the French and Indian War and continuing through the American Revolution. The region was the scene of many bloody encounters, from hit-and-run raids to full-scale battles such as the Battle of Oriskany, fought near present-day Utica in the summer of 1777.

Berleth is a former English professor at Pace University in New York and Russell Sage College in Troy. He's currently a professor at St. Francis College in Brooklyn.

His book is published by Black Dome Press based in Greene County.
