Area Betting System Crashes Just Before Kentucky Derby
The betting system used by Capital OTB and several Race Tracks throughout the state crashed today, less than an hour before the beginning of the Kentucky Derby .
According to Capital OTB President John Signor, the company OTB uses to process it's bets, United Tote, had a systems crash fifty-five minutes before post.
Along with Capital OTB, Vernon Downs Race Track, Tioga Downs Race Track and Finger Lakes Race Track were also shut down for about an hour due to the computer glitch, Signor said.
Most years at Derby time OTB makes roughly $3 million, Signor said. Today's events, he said, will likely cause that number to be significantly lower.
In spite of the problems though, Signor said the crowd at the Albany Teletheater were very understanding because New York has a very smart horse racing community.
