Albany County Comptroller Mike Conners had released more information about his audit of District Attorney David Soares' office.
The audit, which is 33 pages long, alleges thousands of dollars from the DA's office is missing or was misspent. Conners says the violations are wide ranging -- from mishandling evidence to irresponsible spending to improper payroll and book keeping.
In the evidence room, the Comptroller found more than $6,000 in cash and three evidence bags missing or unaccounted for.
Conners also examined the D.A. office's spending -- specifically, seizure funds spent on things like team softball shirts, a Florida parking ticket, a pizza party and a 2006 Christmas party.
D.A. Soares issued a statement in response to the audit, saying, "In our business, we strive to apply one standard of justice. To us, it appears the County Comptroller is applying two standards of accounting."
Both Soares and Conners will hold separate news conferences Monday afternoon.
