Kinderhook woman arrested again for filing false benefit claims

State Police have arrested a Kinderhook woman for allegedly filing fraudulent claims with her health insurance company.

Pyka Hughes, 34, was arrested and charged May 29th with felony third-degree insurance fraud, felony second-degree forgery, felony offering false instruments for filing and misdemeanor falsifying business records, according to State Police.

The charges come after a year-long investigation by New York State Insurance Fraud Bureau in conjunction with the Aetna Special Investigations Unit.

Hughes was arraigned in the Village of Valatie Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail on $5,000 cash bail. She is expected to return to court tomorrow, June 2nd.

Hughes was previously arrested in February of 2008 in a similar case that was investigated by the state Department of Labor. She was then arrested for fourth-degree grand larceny for filing unemployment benefit claims, and later convicted of the charges.
