A 17-year-old Wynantskill woman is facing charges for filing a false kidnapping report, then for giving a false name to police when she was arrested for lying about the alleged kidnapping.
Christina Keeter was charged March 12th with falsely reporting an incident and making a false written statement. She was then re-arrested March 13th and charged for disguising her real name when she was arrested the day before, apparently because she was wanted in Albany County Family Court for violating probation.
Keeter's stepfather, 37-year-old Joseph Burnett, was also charged with filing a false kidnapping report.
According to East Greenbush Police Chief Christopher Lavin, Keeter and Burnett went to police on March 4th to report that a former neighbor of theirs, a 45-year-old man, had assaulted Keeter earlier in the day and tried to wrestle her into his car, and then gave up when Burnett appeared.
Police arrested the suspect in question, but their investigation failed to turn up any evidence supporting Keeter's claims. The defendant's alibi solidified under further investigation. The judge adjourned further court proceedings and released the defendant.
Keeter was arraigned in East Greenbush Town Court this afternoon.
