Local Car Dealer Arrested Again on Grand Larceny Charges
The co-owner of the used car dealership Frontline Motors was arrested again Thursday on additional charges of grand larceny just two weeks after her initial arrest.
Kimberly Shaffer, 37, of Glenmont, was arrested by the state police Auto Theft Unit Thursday after media reports of her initial arrest two weeks ago prompted more victims to contact police.
Two weeks ago, Shaffer, a co-owner of Frontline Motors in Nassau, was arrested for several counts of grand larceny after investigators found that she'd collected deposits on used cars from three different customers, then sold those cars to other customers.
After local media reported Shaffer's arrest, several other people contacted the state police with additional complaints involving transactions at Frontline Motors.
One Rotterdam couple said that they paid Shaffer $1,500 for a used 1995 Saturn being sold from a parking lot off of State Route 9W in Bethlehem. According to the couple, Shaffer presented herself as the mother of the car's titled owner and accepted the cash but claimed she could not turn over the car immediately to the couple because of problems with the vehicle title.
Shaffer then altered the title, police said, and sold the car to a Columbia County man for $1,500 without returning the money paid by the Rotterdam couple.
Police charge that Shaffer knowingly possessed and provided to the buyers a forged vehicle title, bill of sale and DMV form 802 for sale of a motor vehicle.
Saffer was arraigned in Bethlehem Town Court and is currently free on $15,000 bail.
