NY senators to Army: Stop the presses!
New York's U.S. senators say spending federal stimulus money to reprint a color pamphlet on the cleanup of Onondaga Lake is a mistake. They want the Army Corps of Engineers to stop the project because it won't create new jobs or infrastructure.
Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand asked Army Corps Gen. Robert L. Van Antwerp to find a new use for $120,000 that's reportedly been set aside to update the pamphlet with a status report on the $1 billion lake cleanup.
The senators say the money should be used to create or keep jobs related to the cleanup of the lake, once among the most polluted bodies of water in the nation.
The Army Corps didn't immediately comment Tuesday.
The Post Standard of Syracuse first reported on the project Sunday.
