Two arrested for Amsterdam attack

Two Amsterdam residents were arrested last night in connection with an early morning Division St. attack earlier this month.

Jesus N. Torres, 27, of 73 Mechanic Street and Amanda S. Straus, 27, of the same residence, were held for arraignment. Straus and Torres were charged with third degree assault, and Straus was additionally charged with endangering the welfare of a child, according to a statement from the Amsterdam Police Dept.

The two allegedly attacked an underage victim as she walked down the street at around 1 A.M. on Aug. 6. The victim was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam for treatment of her injuries.
