From the Lenox, Massachusetts Police Department:
"On Friday 11/13/09 the Lenox Police Department arrested Stefan E. Veremko, 05/27/1981, of 59 Dartmouth St., Pittsfield and charged him with larceny in a building, breaking and entering (B&E) in the daytime with the intent to commit a felony, receiving stolen property, and possession of ammunition without a permit.
His arrest stems from a B&E which occurred on 11/11/09 at 1500 in the 700 block of East St., Lenox. At that time an alert witness observed a gray Hyundai Elantra back speedily from a driveway in front of him as a white male with a white pillow case ran across the lawn and jumped into the Elantra. The witness recorded the license and plate and followed the car on to a dead end road. As the Hyundai was leaving the dead end road the witness observed that the Hyundai was now bearing a different license plate.
With the assistance of the Lanesborough Police Department and a Trooper from the Lee State Police Barracks the Lenox Police developed a suspect. The car was later located a 59 Dartmouth St., Pittsfield and positively identified by the witness. On 11/13/09 the Hyundai was seized and secured by the Lenox Police. After obtaining a search warrant, the car was processed and several items were seized as evidence from recent B&E’s.
Veremko came to the Lenox Police Department as requested where he was less than cooperative with police and arrested. Simultaneously a search of his home was undertaken by Pittsfield, Lenox, Lanesborough, Lee and State Police agencies. Many more items of evidentiary value were seized from the home.
Further investigation has revealed that Veremko is responsible for at least four B&E’s in Lenox. He has also now been implicated in B&E’s in North Adams, Pittsfield, Richmond, Williamstown, Dalton, Hancock, Lanesborough, as well as towns in Southern Vermont and Eastern New York.
Veremko is scheduled to appear for arraignment on the Lenox charges on Monday morning in Southern Berkshire District Court.
The Lenox Police Department will be holding a viewing of all of the evidence seized in this case at a later date and time to be announced publicly. We respectfully ask that anyone who may have been a victim of a breaking and entering into their home and suspect that we may be holding some of their property contact their local police agency who in turn can contact us directly to obtain more information.
It is important to note that this is still a fluid investigation with more information developing quickly. It is also essential to recognize that this case unfolded very quickly and could not have been so thoroughly handled without the collaborative effort of the Lenox Police, the Lanesborough Police, the Pittsfield Police, the Lee Police Department, and the State Police from the Lee Barracks and Berkshire Narcotics Unit."
