Thousands of Educators Visiting in Albany

(ALBANY)  A spotlight is on the Albany School District this week as more than 25 hundred educators and administrators from around North America converged on the capitol city for the National Urban Alliance convention.  

The three day conference has filled Albany hotels and is expected to generate 750-thousand dollars into the Albany economy.  On Thursday nearly 100 of the educators toured five Albany schools to get a first hand look at how NUA has impacted the learning process in an urban school district over the past year.   Albany Schools signed a half million dollar contract with the nationally known organization that promised to change the culture of the classroom to improve student achievement and close the gap between black and white students.

  At the Pine Hills Elementary School Kindergarten teacher Sally Bruce demonstrated some of the NUA techniques that officials feel will travel with a child from kindergarten thru high school allowing the child to absorb and understand the material in a more comprehensive way.

  Throughout the conference which will take place at the Empire State Convention Center and at the Crowne Plaza Hotel...workshops will focus on a variety of issues affecting urban schools including the impact of exposure to violence on the learning process.
