Fact Finder: Is Albany really riddled with gun violence?

ALBANY -- Earlier this week, we brought you a story about a video on the internet depicting Albany as a city riddled with violence and illegal guns.

One part of this video likened the city to a "third-world nation."

The NRA is fighting anti-gun legislation and used Albany as an example of how they say existing gun laws are "not" helping to curb crime.

City officials CBS 6 spoke with were not happy about the way Albany was depicted in the video and called it inaccurate.

So just how many how many illegal gun cases does Albany County prosecute each year?

According to the District Attorney's office, they average about 50 to 60 cases per year with the crimes ranging from possession to murder.

A spokesperson says, on average, cases take about 47 days to wrap up, from arrest to conviction.

They also said while the office has seen a decrease in cases involving injuries related to violent gun crimes in recent years, it has noticed an uptick lately in violent stabbings.
