Civil Liberties Union sues Albany police over stun weapons

ALBANY -- The New York Civil Liberties Union is suing the city of Albany police department over its electric stun weapon policy.

The group filed suit Wednesday in state Supreme Court in Albany. It said the police department has refused to release a complete copy of its stun-gun policy, and the public has a right to the information.

NYCLU previously sued Saratoga Springs and eventually received an entire copy of its policy.

The city of Albany had provided a partial copy of the policy but blanked out some sections, saying it's allowed to withhold information that might threaten the safety of officers or the public.

Assistant Corporation Counsel Jeffery Jamison said he had not yet been served with a copy of the lawsuit Wednesday.
