Man wanted in Albany sex abuse cases caught in Puerto Rico
ALBANY -- US Marshals arrested a Dominican Republican man at an airport in Puerto Rico in connection with two Albany sex abuse cases from 2007 and 2008, city police announced Friday.
Franklyn Veras, 33, is accused of sexually assaulting two girls, who were 8 and 15 years old at the time of the abuse.
The victims' mother went to police in September 2008. When police and the District Attorney's Office began investigating, Veras left the area, and eventually, the country.
US Marshals captured Veras at the Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in January. Veras was extradited back to Albany and charged on a sealed indictment Wednesday, March 3 for two counts of first-degree rape, predatory sexual assault against a child, first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child and predatory sexual assault.
Veras is currently being held in Albany County Jail.
