Albany County inmate caught trying to escape jail cell
ALBANY -- An Albany County Correctional Facility inmate was arrested Monday night after he tried to escape from jail, the county Sheriff's Office said.
Correction officers caught 35-year-old Dennis Grant of Voorheesville trying to push and kick out a window in his jail cell at 8 p.m. Monday night, said the Sheriff's Office.
The vertical window measures seven feet high, six inches wide, and a half-inch thick, with laminated security glazing, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Grant was removed from his cell by officers and placed in the facility's Special Housing Unit.
Grant has been in jail since Nov. 20 on burglary charges based on an investigation into a string of home and business burglaries that had occurred over the past several weeks, primarily in the town of New Scotland, as well as in the towns of Bethlehem and Colonie.
He has already been on parole following a similar string of burglaries in 2006.
Grant was charged with four counts of felony second-degree burglary, three counts of felony third-degree burglary, two counts of felony third-degree grand larceny, three counts of felony third-degree criminal mischief, misdemeanor fourth-degree criminal mischief, and misdemeanor petit larceny.
Grant was remanded to the Sheriff's custody.
