Early morning rape claim in Albany
Woman says man followed her downtown
From Albany Public Safety Spokesman James Miller:
"Albany Police are investigating a assault of a 27 year old Albany County woman early this morning on North Pearl Street.
Officers were originally called to Albany Medical Center for a woman who was possibly sexually assaulted. The victim told police she was outside of Jillian’s at approximately 3:30 AM when a man approached her. She walked away and he then followed her as she walked down North Pearl Street. When she got near the Parking Garage at Capital Rep the suspect forced her behind the building, punched her in the face and knocked her to the ground. He then tried to force himself on her. She screamed and was able to get away from him. The suspect then ran off in an unknown direction.
The victim told officers the suspect was 5’7”, black hair, brown eyes and was wearing a black hoodie with white fur trim on the hood. The victim believed that the suspect might be or Middle Eastern descent.
The investigation is still continuing. Anyone who might have any information should call the Detective Division at 469-8039."
