Troy man arrested for assaulting girlfriend
ALBANY- A Troy man was arraigned today in Albany City Criminal Court, and charged with DWI and 3rd degree assault after an incident with his girlfriend. Police say Justin Mawad, 29, of North Lake Avenue, was arguing with his girlfriend outside of 52 Columbia Street when he grabbed her by her hair and slammed her head into the side of his pickup truck several times, causing a four-inch cut on her head. She flagged down officers after the incident, and then pointed out her boyfriend, who was down the street at the time, backing his truck out of a parking space. The officers were able to stop Mawad before he got any further. They say when they pulled him over, he wasn't wearing any clothing, and had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. They tell us he failed both the field sobriety tests and the breathalyzer exam after he was transported to the Police Station. His girlfriend was treated by paramedics at the scene and was taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment.
