Albany County judge arrested on DWAI charge
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Albany County Family Court Judge Gerard Maney was arrested Thursday night in Green Island on a charge of DWAI, County Sheriff James Campbell has confirmed to CBS 6 News.
Police observed Maney turning away from a sobriety checkpoint as he approached it; that's when he was pulled over and administered a breathalyzer test, said Campbell.
The checkpoint was one of several set up last night in a countywide police crackdown on drunk driving.
An alcohol-related DWAI charge signifies a blood alcohol content level of .05 to .07. A DWI charge represents a blood alcohol content level of .08 or higher.
Maney is the supervising judge for the third judicial district of New York and announced his candidacy for state Supreme Court justice in the district earlier this week. The judicial district comprises Rensselaer, Columbia, Greene, Ulster and Schoharie counties, along with Sullivan and Albany.
Maney was processed and released.
