Albany teen pleads guilty to gun possession

An Albany teen is facing up to three years in prison after pleading guilty to felony second-degree attempted criminal weapon possession.

Sixteen-year-old Tashawn Tarver admitted his guilt in exchange for the sentence, which also includes up to two years of post-release supervision.

Tarver will receive his sentence on Oct. 31st.

According to Albany County district attorney David Soares, Albany police officers were patrolling the area of Elk and Lark Streets on August 10th when they observed Tarver riding up and down the street in the middle of foot traffic.

When the officers approached Tarver, according to Soares, Tarver immediately took off on his bike. The officers chased after the teen, and while in pursuit, saw him discard what turned out to be a loaded .25 caliber handgun.

D.A. Soares urged Albany residents with information about an illegal handgun in the county to call the ENOUGH hotline at 765-3668.
