Middle school gym teacher arrested on sex abuse charges

ATHENS -- A middle school gym teacher has been arrested on charges of sex abuse and forcible touching, State Police say.
Kenneth Volpe, 35, was charged with second-degree sexual abuse, misdemeanor forcible touching and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.
Volpe, a gym teacher and coach for the Coxsackie-Athens Middle School in Coxsackie, was arrested after an investigation into allegations of inappropriate contact between Volpe and a 13-year-old female student while on school grounds.
Volpe was arraigned in Town of Coxsackie Court and released on his own recognizance.
