June 28, 1970 - Gas wars

Updated: Friday, August 2 2013, 09:17 PM EDT
On this day in 1970, a big gas war was making headlines in the capital region.

11 Sunoco dealers in Schenectady were refusing to raise their gas prices... Despite orders from the company.

The dealers were hoping to force their company to roll back the price hike.

The 5 to 6 cent price hike was hefty, when you consider gas was around 30 cents a gallon back then.

There was great suspicion among the retailers that the companies conspired to raise prices.June 28, 1970 - Gas wars
