Updated: Friday, August 2 2013, 09:17 PM EDT
On this day in 1966, Mohawk Airlines added prop-jet service.

They were a precursor to the jets we see today.

Because of the new aircraft, the Albany County board of supervisors approved a 1 million dollar contract adding 1-thousand feet to the north-south runway.

Watervliet-Shaker road had to be shortened and loop around the longer runway-the loop that still exists today. July 3, 1966 - Mohawk Airlines adds prop jet service
