August 8, 1970 - Meat packaging concerns

Updated: Thursday, August 8 2013, 06:44 AM EDT
We see it all the time now, but in 1970 it was a radical concept: Clear packaging for food!

5 Central Markets were experimenting with it.

They started in the early spring with fruits and vegetables.

There were a few bugs in the system (not literally)…the packaging fogged up and was more expensive.

Central Markets produce manager John Julian said shoppers hadn't given a clear indication yet.
