We see it all the time now, but in 1970 it was a radical concept: Clear packaging for food!
5 Central Markets were experimenting with it.
They started in the early spring with fruits and vegetables.
There were a few bugs in the system (not literally)…the packaging fogged up and was more expensive.
Central Markets produce manager John Julian said shoppers hadn't given a clear indication yet.
The state legislature had also been debating clear packaging. A then Amsterdam Assemblywoman had been pushing the issue.
